Frequently Asked Questions
Moxibustion

What is moxibustion?
Moxibustion is a type of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves burning moxa, a cone or stick made of ground mugwort leaves or other herbs, on or near your body's meridians and acupuncture points. Practitioners believe that the resulting heat helps stimulate these points and improves your body's flow of qi (energy).

When should you not use moxibustion?
If you're pregnant, be sure to tell your acupuncturist in advance of your treatment so they can use moxibustion with caution, if at all.

Does moxibustion help with inflammation?
Several research have validated the effects of moxibustion for anti-inflammatory, analgesic and detumescence, including regulating inflammatory cytokines, alleviating the cartilage degradation and bone destruction, improving the synovial inflammation hyperemia and edema in RA.
